A little information to help you get the most out of your shoes
It´s best not to wear your shoes everyday, rather only every third day. Once in a while give your shoes a good polish. Do not overdo the shoe cream, as this can block the leather pores and decrease your feet´s ability to breathe. For the occasional care of all plain leathers we recommend "Collonil Ultra", a light shoe polish with lanoline. However, the edge of the sole and shaft of shoes in the Closed collection should be treated with suitable shoe polish on a weekly basis to prevent moisture from seeping in. Small scratches can often be treated with matching shoe polish, too.
If your shoes get wet, do not place them in direct sunlight or on a radiator but allow them to dry naturally and make sure that they keep their shape by using a suitable shoetree. The use of shoetrees is not recommended for very soft leather as they may stretch the leather. However, above all, never wear your shoes while still wet! Otherwise the leather could stretch and the shoes could lose their shape beyond repair.

Liquids like water and oil and even dirt can leave irreversible stains on any leather. To avoid staining, please do not wear your shoes in wet or soiled environments, nor in the woods or on the beach. They have been designed for use in urban surroundings only.
Vegetable-tanned leathers (wax, waw, dplx) are extremely sensitive to humidity and heat. Rain and moisture - also from inside - can leave marks and result in colour changes. Therefore, please keep your shoes dry and never wipe them with a wet cloth. Extreme heat such as that caused by direct sunlight, radiators or open fires may not only damage the leather surface substantially but also to the shoes as such.
Batik leather (bat) is half vegetable, half synthetic-tanned. It is sensitive to water stains and scratches. To protect the colours the leather must be kept supple. We recommend "Collonil Ultra", a mild shoe polish with lanoline. Batik leather also darkens with wear.
If you are the proud owner of elk or goatskin shoes, prevention is the best protection.

Elk (elk, edf, mfl) and goatskin (cpr, pek) has a very thin grain layer, is extremely sensitive to abrasion and difficult to clean. If the shoes do get dirty, please wait until the dirt has dried and try to brush it off gently. Please do not use any shoe care products on light shades of elk or goatskin, as these can turn the leather a yellowish colour. Dark colours can be maintained with a gentle shoe polish and a soft cloth. Never use a hard brush, though, and take extra care with this material in general.
To clean nubuk leather made from cowhide (nub, nuf) or buffalo (snu, ipo), please use a suede brush or a special nubuk cleaning block. Before wearing your nubuk shoes the first time, please apply a neutral waterproofing spray to make them a little more resilient.
All leather with shiny surfaces such as batik or shiny buffalo (bug, glm) as well as goatskin (pek), patent (ven, lam) an crack (crk) leather or all leather with metallic surfaces (waw, sft) are extremely sensitive to surface damages.
