Trippen Closed, like all other Trippen shoes, are not just available for one season, but remain in the collection where they are continually modernised and with time develop into classics.
Every model is a personal interpretation of various themes that range from plants or animals over urban living spaces and vanguard architecture to experimental pattern-cutting techniques that create kinetic sculptures. When walking those slits open and close with the movement, turning the surface into a living and breathing entity.
This collection is made from vegetable tanned calf leather. This leather is also referred to as wax leather and is recognisable through its pull up effect. That means the leather has a lighter base that is visible underneath a darker surface. The leather is dyed through and treated with a wax finish. We use our wax leather unlined. Initially vegetable tanned leather is less soft than leather tanned with chrome. The softness comes when the shoes are worn in. Wax leather will also get darker when exposed to sunlight.
Thanks to their huge popularity the boots form their own group among the Closed collection. They are characterised by the generous use of unusually soft leather, dramatic silhouettes and a sturdy and powerful appearance.
The concept behind the elk collection is based on the characteristics of the material itself. Elk is extremely soft and flexible. It has an elasticity that other leather do not possess. But what is most interesting for our designers is that they can create designs in elk that would not be possible in any other leather. The elk leather is chrome tanned. With vegetable tanning the leather would lose its softness and flexibility.
What makes the Trippen Closed unique is their sleek design and original silhouettes. Unconventional pattern lines, whose priorities are fitting the anatomy of the foot and enhancing and supporting movement, form the basis of our designs. We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, while at the same time not compromising the quality of our products.
The new styles combine experiment and function. The inspirations range from old-fashioned climbing boots over medieval leather armour to post-modern architecture and everyday life in fictional mega cities.
Work with lines and three-dimensional shapes is a classic Trippen theme. New silhouettes break with common perception; experimental pattern solutions allow designs far removed from tradition. Despite all experiments, the styles are always based on functional considerations.
