Cups

1999 saw the development of the Trippen Cups. The idea behind the Cups was to produce an ergonomic shoe with a modern look and a new wearing sensation. The Cups are designed to mirror the feeling of walking barefoot, while the rubber sole offers safety and protection. The pre-moulded full grain insole is made of thick leather that is normally used for leather soles. This leather is heated and moulded around a form in shape of a foot. The resulting footbed is like a shell that holds and shelters the foot and at the same time forms the skeleton of the shoe.

The rubber sole is sewn on with a thick yarn, giving the shoe a robust and unique handmade look.

For the Cup collection we use elk, soft wax (waw), batik and three types of buffalo leather (buf, bug and bbs) as well as lavato and glam (glm) for the new Cups Crepe.

The plain summer sole (s) and the textured winter sole (w) are made from 100% rubber and come in the following shades: black, brown, grey, honey, crepe, ice and smog.

The new crepe sole consists of 100% natural rubber. The colour matches the natural colour of the material.

The Cups Crepe perfectly complement the increasingly important theme of sustainable, socially responsible fashion.
While the new models View, Shore or Doc are only available in this design, whereas many earlier models like Bowl, Mug or Pot can also be combined with the new crepe sole.
The Cup collection gets larger and larger with every season. Not only the number of styles grows, but also the sources of inspiration. Classic or playful – the choice of styles appears to be almost endless.
The first Cups looked very much like their concept: a "designer" alternative to trainers. Over the years this developed into an extensive collection. Besides sporty classics like Mug and Bowl the men’s collection also includes more daring styles like Nathan, Surf or Horse.
Lavato means "washed" in Italian and is our term for the denim-lined sheep- or goatskin that is washed at high temperatures and subsequently dyed by hand, which was specially developed by Trippen. Thanks to the tie-dye effect with its’ uneven colouring that is the result of this elaborate process every pair is unique. The fact that the Cups Lavato form an own group among the Cup collection shows the tremendous success of this highly fashionable range.
Since 2003 we have been using our much-loved elk in the Cup collection as well. The result are extremely comfortable shoes with unusual pattern lines that are often only possible in a soft and flexible material like elk. Following the great success over the last years we continue to add a number of new styles in elk in every season.
The Cup boots look very elegant thanks to their lightweight design.
Their sources of inspiration range from the demure style of the 80s, images from 1960s sci-fie movies, erotic bondage games and themes like volume, plasticity and velocity to the boundaries of pattern technique.
