Summer 2010

Trends

Each new collection is inspired by diverse influences. On the one hand, current fashion trends are continued and interpreted, while on the other political, social and cultural events and personal experiences are incorporated within the design. One theme this summer is the vision of Italy in 1950s Germany. Sleepy villages, picturesque harbours and old fishing boats with tattered nets are synonymous with romance and the yearning for distant places. The sun, beaches, faded colours along with forties and fifties beach fashion, are essential components of the collective longing for an idyllic holiday by the sea. Italian souvenirs and pop songs reflect this desire. Abstraction celebrates a renaissance in the Fine Arts. Asymmetrical shapes inspired as a result also find their way into everyday culture. Female fashion is influenced by Dior´s "New Look". Petticoats, peep-toes and pastel shades also constitute an expression of the American attitude to life in those days.

Another of the current collection´s major themes is fashion during the time of the Spanish Baroque period. Influenced by the Counter-Reformation, strict, mathematic shapes supersede Renaissance fashion, which was not considered sufficiently devout. The colour black predominates. The natural body shape is hidden under characteristic padding. Incisions in the surface create an impressive three-dimensionality.

The traditional way of life of Gauchos and Vaqueros was a further source of inspiration. Thick, apparently heavily-aged leather, plaited straps and fringes bring to mind their folkloristic clothing and handmade goods. Natural colours and raw edges underline the rustic character. Another motive this season is Art Nouveau, with its extensive floral ornaments and intricate lines. Its penchant for fairytales and the imaginary is mirrored in the new collection in the same way as its delicate fragility of form.

The new children styles include a model with an elaborately hand-plaited upper, a modest ballerina and a simple sandal, thus revealing all facets of the new collection.
Unpretentious styles evolved on the basis of experiments with the concepts of »open« and »closed«, whose simplicity radiates a timeless elegance.
The themes of the current Penna collection include knitted uppers in reaction to the omnipresent hectic rush, straightforward styles whose decorative elements invariably fulfil a functional purpose and experiments which stretch the boundaries of pattern technique.

Wooden styles emerged as the result of a meditation on the theme of »time«, whose straps are decorated elaborately by hand and also pleated in places.
Variable lacings, partly in- volving elaborate handicraft, partly elastic laces, are one distinguishing feature of the new Cup collection. The pronounced texture of the new washed elk leather, referred to as »mfl«, further enhances the respective styles’ expressiveness.
Interwoven straps and slits open and close with every movement, thus turning the surfaces of the new Mens Closed to life.
Based on an examination of terms like »velocity« and »pace«, styles focusing on the feasibility of laborious craftsmanship in serial production were created by contrast. Geometrical abstractions, characteristic of Trippen’s design vocabulary, complement the new Womens Closed collection.
Plain sandals and peep toes that allow exciting views and pumps with an elegant round toe shape are combined to showcase the sophisticated new Happy collection at its best.
The Box collection features modern interpretations of platform soles, where the contact surface has been reduced to two cuboids. The multiple overlays and asym- metrically arranged pattern pieces pay homage to the Italian design group »Memphis« whose designs were a defining influence in the 80s.
