The Trippen adventure began in 1991: while pottering around an old lasts factory, Angela Spieth and Michael Oehler discovered wooden soles from the seventies. In 1992, after intense weeks of experimentation the first Trippen collection of 60 wearable and non-wearable wooden shoes was presented in a Berlin art gallery. The exhibition was a great success, especially since well-known designers like Claudia Skoda and Wolfgang Joop also ordered the shoes for their catwalk shows. At the same time, the first shoe shops placed their orders.
Initially the collections were designed and produced in Michael Oehler´s 70 square-metre workshop in the heart of West Berlin with the assistance of a handful of students and one apprentice.
The small space became increasingly crowded, though and in 1996 the workshop moved to larger premises in the district of Wedding. Here, with the help of several apprentices and students, 20,000 pairs of wooden shoes could be produced per year. As the demand for the wooden shoes continued to grow, it became obvious that a long-term production solution would have to be found. In 1998, Trippen began to set up its own factory in Zehdenick. This small village close to Berlin was already home to a shoe-manufacturing plant since the days of the former East Germany. Thanks to a continuously growing number of orders, the development of new products and the support of the closing departments of the Italian firms, the new production facility soon established itself.

From initially four members of staff that had previously worked in the former state-run enterprise, the number of employees rose over 70. For Trippen globalisation means the opportunity to find customers world-wide, but to produce locally.
In early 2001 the office and the warehouse moved to new premises in the district of Treptow. Spread out over 1000 square metres and with a view over Berlin, here the studio, offices, showroom, quality control, warehouse and workshop are located under one roof.
This is where new styles are developed and all preparations for trade fairs are made. In the showroom retailers can also place their orders outside of those dates. The sales and accounts department takes care of all administrative issues. For wholesale customers there is an additional Customer Service.
In the finish department all shoes manufactured in Italy and Zehdenick go through a final quality check. Afterwards the shoes are sent from the warehouse to customers world-wide.
The workshop carries out all repairs and replacements of worn-out soles. On top of that it produces the more labour-intensive and time-consuming wooden shoes and the bags.
Employees, apprentices and students from various countries form a colourful and mainly young team.
